Why I’m  building female footballers’ career –  Obaseki

Betsy Obaseki, wife of Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has expressed her readiness to host 13 female football teams at the forthcoming tournament scheduled to hold in the state beginning from September 7, 2022.

Mrs. Obaseki disclosed this to Journalists on Monday after inspecting Samuel Ogbemudia stadium and other venues to be used for the second edition of the tournament.

She said: “Everything is fairly sorted out and in place. We are very ready for the Betsy Obaseki women football tournament.

“In every aspect; equipment, coaching… The moral is high. Ogbemudia stadium is where we are going to have the opening ceremony; opening match; closing ceremony and closing match and winners will go home with N5 million.

“The whole idea or philosophy behind this tournament is a long standing one. We decided to do it for no other reasons other than the one that would have long lasting impact on our girls; not  in Edo State, but across the country.

“Edo State have suffered a lot of backlash with human trafficking. We had a lot of our girls going out of the country, but with this current administration, it’s being curbed.

“We were number one worldwide in human trafficking, but now we are in number 5 or 6 in the 4-5 years of the Obaseki administration.

“So, that says a lot. We are still working hard and pushing; and try to provide our girls with the alternatives for earning dollar and for finding work and building a career and gratifying a meaningful career at home.”
