An embarrassing clip from Asaba, Delta state capital, venue of the ongoing 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF) has revealed accommodation space provided for elite athletes from various states.
The video shot shows how mattresses were kept on bare floor inside a provided accommodation with damaged windows.
According to Nigeria’s Ministry of Youth and Sports development, up 14, 000 athletes, aside officials are meant to participate during this year’s NSF, a situation that has left stakeholders worried over lack of provision for basic amenities.
Up till the time of filling this report, a visit by Blueprint correspondent to different parts of the NSF venue revealed that several infrastructural provisions were yet to be put in place, contrary to assurances by both the Minister of Youth and Sports development Sunday Dare as well as the Main Organising Committee.
Before and while the NSF has kicked off, logistics and overall details of the competition have been surrounded in secrecy by the organisers.
