Following the suspension of two vice chancellors over corruption related cases, the Egalitarian Movement for All (EMA), a non-partisan society of academics has called on the federal government to beam its searchlight on other universities in the country.
According to the group, the suspension, which followed   allegations levelled against four VCs  by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), less than a week after it was made, demonstrated governments readiness to fighting corruption.
They said that probing the finances of other universities and other tertiary institutions in the country, was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s current bid to stamp out corruption in the education sector.

Speaking through its Chairman, Dr James Lawan, the group said the suspension of the two vice chancellors has further demonstrated federal government’s readiness to deal with corruption in all sectors of the economy, noting that they should spread the probe to other universities where similar issues have bee raised.
The movement called on the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu to the University of Ilorin and that of Calabar in its next round of probe.
“People with questionable character should never again be allowed to occupy sensitive positions in the education sector considering its role in the building and training of our youths who are regarded as leaders of tomorrow.
