Ugochinyere to Gumi: Your call for Wike’s removal as FCT Minister baseless, insulting

A Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has cautioned Kaduna based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, over his call to President Bola Tinubu to remove Nyesom Wike from office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On Thursday, the cleric had in a video sermon of over 14 minutes posted on his official Facebook page, labelled Wike as “Satan” for receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria in his office. The cleric in the sermon also asserted that President Tinubu would be stopped from serving for eight years.

But, reacting to Gumi’s statement, Ugochinyere, who’s the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), frowned at he called message of hate, saying that Wike did nothing to warrant such utterances from Sheikh Gumi.

The lawmaker stated that the call for Wike’s removal was baseless and coming from a place of hate for Southerners and Christians and if care is not taken, it might lead to ethnic and religious tension in the country.

He wondered why Sheikh Gumi over the years have been allowed by Nigeria’s security agencies to run amok and continue to push extremist views, while Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still held in jail unjustly.

While stating that Gumi’s attack on Wike will not distract him from commendable FCT reforms he has started, Ugochinyere said that this recent utterances and subtle threats from Gumi must not be brushed under the carpet by security agencies, adding that the call for Wike’s removal was baseless and at the same time insulting.
