Thrills, frills as contestant, 13, storms Britain’s Got Talent semi-final stage

Britain’s Got Talent contestant Malakai Bayoh was sent straight to the semi-finals after wowing judges in Sunday evening’s show.

But some fans of the ITV talent contest were quick to notice that they had seen the 13-year-old opera singer before.

His performance of Pie Jesu was performed while both his mum and sister cheered him on from the audience. And he immediately became a hit with the show’s judges – Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

However, it was Simon who loved his performance so much that he hit the Golden Buzzer and sent Malakai straight to the semi-finals. Fans tuning into the show from home also loved his rendition, but some viewers recognised the young boy from some previous performances he had done with a huge classical singing star in the past as well as some performances at the Royal Opera House, the Mirror reports.

Simon’s golden buzzer comes in the second episode after new judge Bruno Tonioli gave his golden buzzer to dance group Ghetto Kids in the series opener. So impressed was Simon by Malakai Bayoh singing Pie Jesu, the song that shot Charlotte Church to fame back in the 1990s, that he called his rendition ‘golden.
