Governor Aliyu Magatakardan Wamakko of Sokoto state has said the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has been a staunch supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since its inception.
The governor stated this in Sokoto at the Sokoto APC stakeholders’ meeting held yesterday at the Presidential Lodge, Sokoto “All eyes were on Speaker Aminu Tambawal. I want inform the gathering that Speaker Aminu has been a staunch supporter of APC since inception.

“It was we that told him to remain in PDP till the day of nomination of party flag bearers came and today is the day. Speaker Aminu is back home,” the governor averred.
The governor appealed to all the aspirants to in the spirit of change and put interest of the party first above their personal interest.
Tambuwal, who looked overwhelmed, drove in the same vehicle with Wamakko.

He deliberately refused to talk with anxious newsmen who waited throughout the period of the meeting to ask him why he attended the APC meeting.
His presence at the meeting surprised many people because he had not declared for the APC even though he had not been attending PDP functions for a very long time at either the state or national levels.
In Abuja, however, Tambuwal confirmed that he actually attended a political meeting some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, adding that consultation is still ongoing about his political future.

A statement issued by his media aide, Imam Imam, in Abuja to debunk rumours that the speaker has defected to APC, clarified that the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, led other members of the party on a reconciliation meeting in Sokoto, but the Speaker was not invited to the meeting.
It also said Tambuwal was later invited by the Sokoto state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to attend the meeting of their political family to discuss the political future of his state.

He said: “The Speaker, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, duly obliged and attended the meeting. The meeting had in attendance prominent Sokoto citizens many of who have no known political affiliation, the most notable being the Sardauna of Sokoto and former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.
“That consultation on the Speaker’s political future continues and the outcome will be made public at the appropriate time.”
