Supreme Court judgement: It’s time to face governance, NUJ tells Fubara

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers state council, has congratulated Sir Siminalayi Fubara on the Supreme Court affirmation of his electoral mandate as Rivers governor.

The union however admonished the governor to settle down to work so as to deliver the dividends of democracy to the electorate

The NUJ in a statement on Thursday in Port Harcourt signed by the chairman and secretary of the union, Stanley Job Stanley and  lke Wigodo, respectively and made available to Blueprint, expressed satisfaction with the judgement, saying the verdict has finally put to rest the prolonged legal battle arising from the outcome of the March 18, 2023 governorship contest in the state.

The Union appealed to Fubara to be magnanimous in victory by seeing his affirmation at the apex court as a birthday gift to him and the good people of Rivers state, which comes up on Sunday, January 28.

While urging the government not to be distracted by political opponents but to focus on delivering good governance to the people of the state, the statement also advised the opponents to accept the Supreme Court judgement in good faith and join hands with the governor in order to move the state forward.

According to NUJ, “We urge the people of Rivers State, especially the political class, to put all that happened during and after the election in the state behind them and support the Siminialayi Fubara-led administration to succeed and make Rivers State a better place for all.”

The union assured Fubara and his government of its unwavering support in moving  the state to greater heights.

Recall that the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Arc Tonye Cole, had filed a suit challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Fubara and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which was earlier dismissed by the tribunal for lacking in merit.
