The lkwerre people of Rivers state are sure banker Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has clarified.
President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel lnwuanyanwu, made this clarification at a news briefing on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
He said it was erroneous for the Ogbakor lkwerre to declare that lkwerre people are not lgbo when the language they speak clearly indicates that they are of lgbo origin.
In his words: ” For somebody to come and tell blatant lie that an lkwerre person is not an lgbo person I don’t think it is possible, and l don’t know if you can defend it in any modern society because your culture, your habit, your name, everything is lgbo.
“Over the years, we have been inter-marrying. So, l want you to know it is not me, it is not my parent, it is not anybody who says lkwerre or anybody is not lgbo. Your language shows that you are lgbo.”
Chief lnwuanyanwu equally said they were in Rivers state to ensure lgbo of the support of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, promising to fight for any lgbo person found to be treated unjustly.
He highlighted the organisation’s role in safeguarding the interest of the lgbo globally, provided they are not involved in criminality.
He also pointed out that lgbo are known for their integrity and dedication to development wherever they reside, debunking the wrong notion of fraud.
