Southern Kaduna senatorial candidate seeks cancelation of election results over irregularities

Following allegations of widespread irregularities that characterised the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Southern Kaduna senatorial district, the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Michael Auta, has called for cancellation of the results.

Addressing a press briefing Tuesday at the Labour Party office in Kafanchan, Mr Auta accused officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising the electoral process in the region.

He also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of perpetrating unwholesome acts, including intimidation of Labour Party agents and supporters, and threats to life, particularly targeted at him during the elections.

Other allegations, according to Mr Auta, include uploading of results while elections were ongoing, especially in Zonkwa town, complete absence of election at Bishini Ward in Kagarko local government area due to absence of BVAs but results recorded.

He also alleged that most INEC officials abandoned their duty posts and later resurfaced very lately apart from the lack of proper accreditation of voters in some polling units and voting points.

Auta also pointed an accusing finger at the Chairman of Zangon Kataf local government, Mr Francis Sani for what he described as interference with the electoral process in the area.

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting credible elections on the one hand, the Labour Party Senatorial candidate said INEC was on the other hand compromising the future of Nigerians.

He appealed to the electoral umpire to rise to the responsibility of investigating and doing the needful in the interest of fairness and peace.
