Arrangements have been concluded by Sokoto state government to sell its houses to civil servants on Owner Occupier basis, the Commissioner for Lands and House, Alhaji Nasiru Aliyu  Dantsoho, has said.
The commissioner, who disclosed this to newsmen at the occasion of the World Habitat Day, said his ministry had taken inventory of all the houses slated for sale and the exercise would soon commence.
He said the houses constructed by present administration at Mana and Bado had since been allocated to civil servants and other people because, according to him, the houses were not meant to civil servants only.
He, however, debunked an allegation that the houses were being allocated to political associate and friends arguing that there was even distribution of government largesse among the citizenry.
He said the 500 Kalambaina housing unit would soon be allocated to people because 95 per cent of the contractual work had been completed.
On the Sokoto Master Plan, the commissioner said efforts had been taken to ensure that the original plan had not been distorted.
He said the ministry had set up a committee which comprises
traditional rulers and staff of the ministry to advise government on how to overcome the problem of Mabera area.
He said the committee would redesign, suggest roads and drainages to be built in the area “so as to overcome perennial flood menace which is of serious concern to the inhabitants of the area.”
