The Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGoF), Surveyor Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, has inaugurated the Implementation Committee (IC) for the monitoring and enforcement of the Survey Coordination Act (SCA).
Adebomehin, who inaugurated the committee during a session with the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) with the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Police and other Security Agencies in Abuja recently, directed the committee to commence its task which he described as a very important national assignment with the immediate effect.
He observed that some persons and corporate groups have been using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and other geospatial technologies in gathering data across the country without recourse to national security.
The SGoF stressed that activities that constitute violations of the provisions of the Act would no longer be condoned.
He added that the law would henceforth take its full course on any of the violators hence the inauguration of the IC in demonstration of the seriousness of the Federal Government‘s commitment to issues of national security.
“It is pertinent for members of the Nigerian public to know that the provisions of the SCA are meant to guide against activities of surveying and geo-informatics that may infringe on areas of national security and abuse of critical infrastructure across the country.
The law requires persons, groups or corporate organizations apart from the Military to refer to the SGoF before embarking on surveying and mapping activities, he said.
The committee, which will be presided by the Head of the Survey Coordination Department of OSGoF, Surveyor Semiu Akanni Ayinde, comprises staff of the Monitoring and Compliance Division of the OSGoF and representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Chief of Defence Staff, the Nigerian Army, Navy, Airforce, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC).
Others are the representatives of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Immigration, Customs, NSCDC and the FRSC.
