Senate Presidency: Goje splits rank of PDP Senators-elect

Intense lobby, horse trading and intrigues continue to trail the election of the president of the Senate as the date of the inauguration of the 9th Assembly draws near.

Checks by Blueprint’s correspondent revealed that the purported interest of Senator Danjuma Goje, from Gombe state, in the race has divided the rank of Senators-elect on the platform of the opposition People Democratic Party(PDP).

Findings showed that some of the Senators-elect are favourably disposed to Goje who is currently chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation because, according to them, the ranking senator (Goje) had helped them in making budgetary allocations to their constituencies in the past.

One of the Senators who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed his support for Goje should he run for the Senate’s top post.

“I am supporting Goje because he has been good to my constituency in the past. He made sure that he infused constituency projects for me during appropriations.”

But another PDP Senator-elect said he would vote for the APC endorsed candidate, Ahmed Lawan from Yobe.

According to him, he will prefer to pitch his tent with the winning team than back Goje.

“I will not support Goje” he emphatically stated.

Further investigations revealed that since the horse trading started there has been a split in the rank of sitting and Senators-elect of the main opposition party.
