Kaduna state government is set to sponsor 29 medical students of Kaduna State University (KASU) for their preclinical studies at the Unesco University in Uganda as the facilities at the Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital expected to serve as KASU Teaching Hospital are yet to be ready.
Kaduna state Commissioner for Education, Malam Ibrahim Ali, who disclosed this to reporters yesterday in Kaduna, said the state government was set to spend N150 million to cover the tuition fees of the 29 students for three and half years and their upkeep for the first year, adding that work was being intensified to complete the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital facilities by September.

He said: “We intend to flag-off the first batch of scholarship in KASU. We have two sets of 300 level medical students because they could not go for their preclinical studies, as Barau Dikko Hospital and Yusuf Dantsoho Hospital are not in order.
“For the third set not to catch up with the first set, we would put the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in order by September, 29 medical students of the first set would be sponsored to Kampala, Uganda one university established by Unesco, which is one of the best universities in Africa.

That would cost the state government N150 million to cover their s school fees for the three and half years, while their upkeep would be paid yearly.”
He said with 523 senior and junior secondary schools, Kaduna state government is doing its best despite the paucity of fund to provide the best education facilities for its citizens. He said Kaduna state has spent N12 million to furnish 10 classrooms in Kaduna Capital schools, while efforts are on to complete the furnishings and complete the fencing which will gulp N18 million.
