@Sarkin Sudan’s installation: Governor  charges monarchs to steer clear of politics 

Over 50 monarchs from across the country Saturday honoured with their presence the installation and presentation of staff of office to the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau Mu’azu II, in Kontagora local government area of Niger state. 

It was learnt that the royal fathers were led to the occasion by the Sultan of Sokoto,  Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, while the chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers,  Etsu Nupe Yahaya Abubakar, led all the first class emirs in Niger state to the coronation. 

In his address, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state urged traditional rulers to steer clear of partisan politics. 

He said: “You should be role models and custodian of our cultural heritage. Nigerians are looking up to you to play the role of non partisan before during and after the forthcoming general elections.”

The governor charged traditional rulers to ensure that Nigerians conduct themselves peacefully towards achieving violent- free general elections this year. 

He said: “Niger state government will continue to engage traditional institution in governance process, especially at the grass root level to enhance rapid development of the state and Nigeria at large.”

He congratulated the people of Kontagora for having an emir that emerged through a transparent process which he said has further broaden the legitimacy and  integrity of traditional institutions in Niger state.
