Real Madrid ‘at war’ with Ancelotti

Real Madrid’s board is starting to disapprove of Carlo Ancelotti playing veteran midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos together.

Real Madrid dropped La Liga points in a 1-1 draw with Sevilla over the weekend. Modric and Kroos finished the game on the pitch together, with Relevo reporting that the club’s board consider Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga ‘untouchable’, and are beginning to disapprove of the veteran duo playing at the same time.

Kroos, 33, played the whole game at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, while 38-year-old Modric replaced Valverde for the final 23 minutes plus stoppage time when the scoreline was still 0-0. Ancelotti had also withdrawn Tchouameni moments before. Kroos and Modric had last spent meaningful time on the pitch together in the city derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Los Blancos will turn their attentions to the Champions League on Tuesday night with the relatively short trip across the border into Portugal to face Braga. Real have won both group stage games they have played against Union Berlin and Napoli so far this season.
