Lagos clash:  Police arrest 50 suspects, destroy shanties in Ile-Epo 

The Lagos state police command has arrested over 50 hoodlums following reports of clashes among some youth and hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of the state.

It was leant that some individuals sustained injuries during the clash among hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos. 

According to eye an witness, the altercation commenced in a local market on Wednesday night and extended into Thursday morning.

“During the confrontation, several shops were set ablaze, and merchandise vandalised. Our correspondent, who visited the scene, discovered that the timely intervention of the police was hindered by the unruly mob. Additionally, a fire service truck attempting to enter the market was compelled to retreat after being bombarded with stones.

It was gathered that an online betting controversy was blamed for the crisis that engulfed Ile Epo market in Alimosho area on Wednesday  night.

It was also gathered that someone, who played the game could not get his redemption  from the vendor.

Following a heated argument, it was reported that someone got injured.

“But in a twist of event some Hausa Traders were accused of joining the fight, which some older persons in the process.

“This gathered angered another group which engaged in a reprisal attack, burning a trailer that was loaded with Pepper and other items were also caught in the crossfire”, a source said.

Reacting to the incident, SP Benjamin Hundenyi, Police spokesperson of the command, confirmed that the clash was between some youth and hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos state.

“The DPO Oke-Odo swiftly led his men to the scene, and has since restored normalcy. Over 50 suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed and effectively dislodged,” Hundeyi stated.
