Probe panel on Mambilla Plateau crisis begins sitting Aug 3

Th e Commission of Inquiry set up by the Taraba state government to look into the crises that had ravaged the Mambilla Plateau in Sardauna local government area of the state will begin hearing/ sitting on August 3, 2017, in Gembu, headquarters of the local government. Blueprint also gathered that additional relief materials from the state emergency management agency are on the way to the Plateau according to a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hassan Mijinyawa. It stated that Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku advised those aff ected by the crisis to go to designated places to access the relief materials.

It read in part: “A public announcement signed by the secretary of the Commission, Barr. Jibrin Hamidu Gimba, aired on the local media disclosed that the Commission would begin public hearing on August 3, and has two months to complete its work instead of the initial three weeks. “Consequently, the Commission requests the general public particularly interested parties to submit written memoranda on the crisis on or before Monday, July 24, 2017.” Meanwhile, the governor has appealed to the people to eschew violence and promote peace, saying “it is the fundamental, necessary and compulsory ingredient for sustainable

 

development.” A press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Mijinyawa, indicated that the governor said his administration had articulated strategies to enhance the people’s wellbeing and safety concerns, adding that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had distributed relief materials to the aff ected communities on Mambilla. He insisted that all hands must be on deck to maintain peace which, according to him, “is a collective responsibility of all irrespective of ethnicity and religion
