Presidential poll: Buhari support group threatens to pull out, back opposition

The Buhari Support groups operating at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport has threatened to withdraw their support if the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) did not refrain from disrupting their operations within the Airport.

Activities of Private Taxi & Car Hire Operators Association of Nigeria and the Commercial Inter-State Bus Operators Association of Nigeria was reportedly disrupted on Thursday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

Also disrupted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja was the operations of Viko Nigeria, the umbrella company of twenty (20) Associations in Nigeria

Chairman Board of Trustees of Private Taxi and Car-hire Operators Association of Nigeria as well as Commercial Inter-State Bus Operators Association of Nigeria Chief Lucky Kanu said that the illegal removal, damage and assault on Viko Nigeria desk at the arrival section of airport is an attack on President Buhari’s re-election bid.

Kanu said that sympathisers to  the opposition within the airport were not happy the associations had partnered Buhari Support Organization through the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) in mobilizing over two million members across the federation to vote for Buhari come February 16, 2019.

Displaying the pictures of the physical assault on a female staff of Viko Nigeria, now  hospitalized at the Air Force Base Clinic, Kanu said that he is sure the operation was carried out without the approval of FAAN management.

He stated that Viko Nigeria was never contacted or directed to remove its desk at the airport.

He said some FAAN officials opposed to the massive support Buhari enjoys from Private Taxi & Car Hire Operators Association of Nigeria and Commercial Inter-State Bus Operators Association of Nigeria might have been responsible for the assault.

According to him, the disruption of the associations’ businesses  at the airport was the handiwork of the opposition who did not want Buhari to emerge.

Kanu stated that the immediate cause of the attack is traceable to the huge and unflinching support of millions of Private Taxi & Car Hire Operators Association of Nigeria and Commercial Inter-State Bus Operators Association for the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kanu maintained that there is no amount of intimidation by all anti-Buhari forces and their agents anywhere in Nigeria that can deter the association’ resolve to vote massively for Buhari reelection on February 16.

As he said, “Our massive support for President Buhari’s reelection got to a crescendo last December, when all members of Private Taxi & Car Hire Operators Association of Nigeria and Commercial Inter-State Bus Operators Association of Nigeria, openly endorsed him for the 2019 presidential election at their end of the year meeting in Abuja”.

The associations had  late last year endorsed Buhari’s government for a second term.

The Association specifically cited on-going projects of the Buhari Administration in power generation and distribution, rail and air transport, water and massive road construction and rehabilitation nationwide as reasons for their support for President Buhari.
