The 2023 edition of the Kaduna International Polo Tournament will be the best organised as it will feature new trophies, more teams and played on a relaid pitch, President of the club, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has said.
Speaking to sports writers on phone in Kaduna on Monday, Mohammed Babangida, who is patron of El Amin Polo Team, said Kaduna Polo Club has put lots of preparation into the polo tournament to ensure that it is unique in the history of the club, adding that the Ahmadu Yakubu Club House will be agog for the two weeks duration of the tournament.
“It’s a new beginning for Kaduna Polo Club, it’s a new leadership, we have been elected for about a year plus and we have been working, renovating the pitch and putting the facilities in best shape. We want to host a unique tournament to showcase the pitch, we want to bring back the glory days of the premier club, Kaduna Polo Club and the most prestigious trophy in Africa, the Georgian Cup.
“We want to host a tournament that everyone will want to play in. We are pleading with our sponsors to support us, we want the players to experience our new pitch. We are expecting the traditional teams, but there will be higher number of teams because we have a new field to showcase and many players would want to come and see what we have done. There would be new trophies for selected teams apart from the four traditional cups; Georgian Cup, Emir of Katsina Cup, Imani Cup and El Amin Cup.”
Speaking on the preparation for the annual tournament, the Tournament Manager, Kaduna Polo Club, Malam Atiku Abubakar Saleh, said the tourney will be the best organised in recent times considering the efforts the club has put into preparation such as facilities and organisation.
“We are preparing for the 2023 Kaduna International Polo Tournament. Kaduna Polo Club is ready to host this year’s edition from October 24 to November 5 and from November 8 to 12.
“We are expecting lots of new selected cups because there are lots of sponsors that have shown interest in sponsoring selected Cups. We have Isa Kaita, Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina Cup. It’s going to be the best as we will work with the media to ensure that we get the best. The cheque presentation will take place on Saturday where we will present our sponsors for the tournament.”
