Former Ambassador of Nigeria to Switzerland, Alhaji Yahaya Kwande, has said the postponement of the country’s general was a clear “challenge,” against the “wishes” of majority of Nigerians.
Kwande, who was reacting against the yesterday’s postponement of the elections, said right from the time when Col. Sambo Dasuki, “arrogantly” stressed in London that “let them do the election and see,” he knew that they would not allow the election to hold as scheduled.
“Dasuki seems to be challenging the wishes of the majority of Nigerians, using his personal powers of the security,” he added.
Kwande, who spoke to Blueprint in a telephone chat, said why was it now that the security agencies were saying they wanted to fight the insurgents.
According to him, Dasuki should have known that he has a duty to protect the credibility of his family’s background, and respectfully advanced cogent reasons the elections cannot hold.
“I don’t think the reasons they have advanced were enough,” he said, adding that “but for their desperation to be in power and fears of defeat, they wouldn’t have caused the postponement.”
Kwande, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the National Security Adviser had just taken advantage of his being the Head of Security in Nigeria, to the disadvantage of the larger majority of Nigerians.
He called on Nigerians to be patience enough stressing that “time will come when the election will hold.”
