Police nab cleric, church member over teenage abortion

Police in Edo state have arrested the general overseer of Glory Land Church, Ekene Samuel, for impregnating and procuring abortion of a 17-year-old girl, Miracle Nwanbueze.

A deaconess in the church, Mrs. Happy Johnson, is also cooling her feet in the police custody for allegedly conspiring with the cleric in the unlawful act.

Mrs Johnson was said to have signed surety for the abortion on the teenager on behalf of pastor.

The state Commissioner of Police,  Mohammed Danmallam, said this while addressing journalists at the  command headquarters.

He said operatives from the command swooped on the suspect after receiving complaint from one Henry Aikhuaman.

The police chief also said the victim confessed  she was impregnated by the pastor who had slept with her five times.

The CP quoted the victim to have said: “the pastor had sex with me five times in December 2018, with charms.”

The police boss said the cleric confessed to have slept with the teenager but denied responsibility for the pregnancy.

“I had sex with her but we have separated. But she came and said she was two months pregnant even when I separated from her months earlier.”
