Police confirm 10 deaths in early morning shooting in Rivers

Rivers Police command has confirmed the killing of at least 10 people, yesterday morning, in a shootout between yet to be identified groups in the Slaughter Area of Agip in Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Port Harcourt.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the story, said the police was yet to ascertain the groups involved in the shootout or the motives behind it.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the spokesperson said: “the police can confirm the incident and that the Divisional Police Offi ce (DPO) of the area was already at the scene, just as I am also on my way there.
“Th e cause of the incident is not yet known, but we know that about 10 persons are feared dead, but I know that in no time we will be able to unravel those behind the killing.
” He further stated that the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the state, Ahmed Zulu, has met with the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Hon Ozioma, in an eff ort to restore calm to the place and have people go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.
Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, of the LGA, Hon Ozioma, also confi rmed the incident but refused to make any further comment.
An eyewitness, however, said that about 15 persons including a couple were killed in the shooting spree, stating that no one was aware of the cause of the shooting or who was responsible for it.
