Police arraign bizman for ‘stealing N253, 400 shirts’

A businessman, Chikwebe Nwa, 22, yesterday appeared in an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing T-shirts and Indian gowns valued at N253, 400.
Nwa of Dape village, Abuja, is charged with five counts of joint act, criminal breach of trust, cheating, criminal intimidation and theft before Senior Magistrate, Mr Abdullahi Illelah.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, told the court that Mr Chinoso Onyenekwe of Karmo village, Abuja, lodged a report at the Life Camp Police Station on May 21.
Emmanuel said on March 4, the accused person and one Kalachi Eze, now at large, came to his shop at Utako Market.
He said they collected T-shirts and Indian gowns worth N150, 000 with an agreement to sell the cloths and pay him the money but they breached the contract.

The prosecutor said on March 28, while Onyenekwe was in his house, the accused person entered his room and stole a cell phone valued at N10, 000 and also took the key to his shop.
The prosecutor said when Onyenekwe got to his shop; he discovered that Nwa had stolen more T-shirts worth N93, 400.
He said all the items allegedly stolen by the accused person were valued at N253, 400.
He said when the complainant confronted the accused to pay him his money, Nwa threatened to kill him.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 79, 312, 322, 397 and 288 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he is liable to 14 years in prison.
He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
Illelah admitted him to bail for N100,000 with two reasonable and reliable sureties who must have means of livelihood and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case to June 2, for hearing. (NAN)
