PEPT: Senators Bamidele, Adeola hail judgement 

 

As reactions continue to trail judgement delivered on Wednesday by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), affirming victory of President Bola Tinubu from the February 25, 2023 Presidential election, Senators Opeyemi Bamidele and Solomon Adeola , have hailed the judgement.

PEPT chaired by Justice  Haruna Tsammani, had in the  judgement , struck out all cases filed against Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commissioner ( INEC), by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP).

In separate reactions to the judgement through statements issued on Thursday, the two senators described the judgement as upholding rule of law against sentiments and victory for democracy.

Specifically, Senator Bamidele who is majority Leader of the Senate in his statement said: “I commend the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) for upholding the rule of law over emotions.

“The verdict of the Justices has once again reaffirmed that Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the February 25, presidential election.

“I also congratulate President Tinubu over the affirmation of his victory by the Tribunal. In the interest of our beloved country, I, therefore, urge the petitioners to join hands with Tinubu’s administration to deliver his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to Nigerians. Politics is over, it is now time for governance.”

Senator Adeola in his own reaction said the victory of President Tinubu signals a renewed hope for the consolidation of our democracy as it has shown that the wishes of the people in exercising their constitutional rights of voting is not undermine in the judiciary by subterfuges of some power mongers for selfish personal ambitions. 

“I am elated that our judiciary has once again restored the hope of patriotic democrats in the sanctity of the ballot box in determining who rule the people. 

“The learned justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal were thorough and prodigious in all their decisions in addressing all issues in contention.

“I salute their courage and eruditeness in delivering what amounts to historical antecedents in our nation’s jurisprudence and democratic development.”
