PASAN hails NASS, Buhari over early passage, signing of 2029 budget

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly chapter has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the political leadership of the parliament over the early passage and signing into law of the 2020 appropriation bill.

The body in a statement issued on Monday, and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Sunday Sabiyi, described the act as not only representing a commendable feat, but “a clear manifestation of the cordial and mutual relationship existing between the two arms of government in pursuit of national development…”.

The body expressed happiness to be associated with the development which it described as one that would provide support to its “unique commitment in providing adequate support services to the legislature”, adding that the appointment and approval of members of governing board of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) was a welcome development.

“Worthy of note also is the year 2020 budgetary provision for the renovation of the National Assembly complex. This will not only give a  face-lift to the complex but will make the precinct of the parliament conducive for legislative activities.

“The union wishes to seize this opportunity to commend Nigerians on the uninterrupted democratic journey which began in 1999. The re-emergence of the legislature 21 years ago has proven to be the difference between previous military regimes and democracy. As such, the legislature has continued to grow in capacity, effectiveness and other areas in ensuring that good governance is entrenched,” the statement read in part.
