Oyo to create separate budget line for community development – Official

Determined to improve development in rural communities, Oyo state government is now ready to create a separate budget line for community development in the state, the board chairman, Oyo state Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Babatunde Esuola, has said.

He stated this in Ibadan Tuesday at the quarterly meeting of the board.

Esuola stated that with a separate budget line for communities and groups, there will be opportunities for more people in the state to have access to benefit from the agency.

The CSDA board chairman stated that the creation of separate budget line would in addition create necessary room for Community Driven Development (CDD) approach,  with a bid to ensure an all inclusive process.

Speaking further, Esuola said the project will focus on the core poor and voiceless in the society using the State poverty map, adding that the present administration in Oyo state under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde is ready to partner with interested stakeholders/ phillatropists who will be ready to provide support and assistance in the area of community development. 

He added that the community development champions will be inaugurated in the state in the shortest possible time to take charge of these responsibilities.

In her remarks, Oyo state CSDA ag. General Manager, Mrs Raheemat Abisola Adabanija stated that with the winding down of the CSDP, government at all levels should focus on mainstreaming the CDD strategy into their  policy.

Mrs. Adabanija stated that with the success of CSDP over the years, the agency has been identified as one of the platforms  that will be executing the CARES program to be funded by the World Bank in the result area 1, targeted at improving the lives of the people.
