Our services under-utilised in Anambra despite our experience – CAN

The Counseling Association of Nigeria (CAN), Anambra state chapter, Tuesday, lamented over alleged underutilisation of the services of guidance and counselors in the state despite their professional training and experience.

The chairperson of the association, Sister Amaka Obineli, stated this at an awareness rally on eradication of poverty held by the association at Awka.

She said guidance and counselors with their experiences, professionalism and training to help develop humans and solve all issues were left unemployed and unengaged by both the government and private individuals.

Obineli, a professor of Clinical Counseling at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Faculty of Education, appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to intervene in the matter by employing their members in government offices with a view to offer their services to the populace.

“There are huge benefits in engaging the services of guidance and counselors in schools, ministries and agencies of the government to address issues of social vices amongst the people. Our services are needed for massive development and sanity.

“We will help to mold, remold and develop people’s lives and career. Our motto is, ‘Confidentiality is our watch word.’ With this at the back of our minds, we will restore individuals who are depressed and in emotional black out to return to normal life and engage in activities of development,” she said.
