Osun Chief Whip makes case for post COVID-19 economic recovery plan


The Chief Whip of the Osun state House of Assembly, Hon Tunde Olatunji, Tuesday, opened portal for COVID-19 essay competition, advising government at all levels to begin to plan for economic recovery. 


Speaking with our Correspondent in Osogbo, Tuesday, Olatunji said the competition was aimed at providing practical solutions that can help in post COVID-19 economic recovery. 


He said, “across the globe, the greatest priority today is how to combat the dreaded COVID -19 pandemic and mitigate it’s negative socio-economic impact on humanity.


“Besides, when the pandemic eventually begins to subsides, individuals must be prepared to adjust to new realities, lots of businesses will need to re-strategize for survival, government at all levels will be confronted with difficult questions and hard choices.


“However, while the search for cure and supports for survival is on, proactive nations are already thinking ahead and they have started working on their Post COVID-19 economic recovery strategies in parallel. 


“In the light of this, we must acknowledge that the latent capacity of productive youths in solving societal problems remain one of the greatest asset of any nation, when fully maximised. While we stay safe and institutions still closed, I believe youths can deploy their intellectual and creative ability positively towards proffering practical solutions that can help us and our society in the Post Covid-19 economic recovery.


The theme of the competition is “Osun Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery: Practical Solutions to Transit from Pandemic to Prosperity”. 


According to Olatunji, sub-themes are: “Economic Diversification and Reflation strategy”, “Agriculture and Food Security”, “Indigenous Medicine and Health Solutions”, “SME Development and Survival Concept”, and “Innovation Science and Technology”. 


He explained that the application is open to all undergraduates and postgraduates of Osun indigenes and residents in tertiary institutions. 


According to him, the best 10 entries will be presented to Osun state government as part of youth contributions toward development and good governance.  


He said the competition would be open on Tuesday, April 21 to Tuesday May 5, on www.tundeolatunji.com and laptop computer, Palmtop computer and computer printer would be made available to the first, second and third prize.
