Osun APC suspends chairman, secretary

Barely 72 hours to Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, the state Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famoodun and Secretary, Mr. Rasaq Salinsile, have been suspended.
The Integrity Group of the State Working Committee in a statement signed by 87 members in all the 30 local governments and area council in Ife, announced the suspension of the APC chairman and the scribe.
According to them, Famoodun sent a message to the 16-members of the State Working Committee of the party on July 13, 2018, that they should sign a resolution directing the method to be adopted for the July 19 primary election.
The party however described the purported suspension as “absolute nonsense”, saying those that announced the suspension have no constitutional right.
“The chairman further directed members of the SWC to sign the purported resolution at the private law office of Dr. Ajibola Basiru, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,” the statement said.
The group stated that 11 out of 16 members refused to comply with the directives because they were of the opinion that no meeting was held on March 14 where the purported resolution was allegedly made.
They noted that some members of the SWC were being coerced to sign the resolution while the state chairman and the secretary were also planning to sign for any member that refused to endorse the resolution.
A statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the party, Bar Kunle Oyatomi, said “the APC is calling on all loyal and faithful members of the party to discountenance frivolous statement made by a few disgruntled members of the state executive who are saying that the party chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun and the state secretary, Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile, have been suspended from the party.
“That statement is absolute nonsense. They have no such right constitutionally to say what they have said and their purpose is purely anti-party. Obviously, these members have other interest to protect than what the party stands for.
“The public as well as our members should be informed that the APC is solidly behind our leadership and nothing of the sort is happening inside our ranks. We are absolutely certain that fifth columnists within the party, who fear they could lose out in the coming primary exercise, are trying to introduce confusion into our ranks but they will fail woefully.”
