Ogun Police parades 7 internet ‘fraudsters’

The Ogun state Police Command has paraded seven suspected internet crime syndicates at the police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta Thursday.

Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun commended the officers who effected the arrests even at the risk of their lives.

Recently a video was circulated on the social media where a team from the Ogun State Police Command was attacked at the popular computer village, Lagos where they had gone to arrest the receiver of phones in the case.

CP however,  said one Gbemisola Mosaku Ajimoh on the 8th of September, 2020 made a complaint at the Adatan Area Command, Abeokuta that her bank account had been hacked into by some internet fraudsters and about N1.5million naira siphoned off.

“A team of detectives headed by one of the command’s bests, W/Sgt Ibiyemi Olayemi, was detailed to investigate. In the course of Investigation, it was revealed that the money siphoned off the account was used to purchase goods, including handsets.

“The handsets were subsequently sold to a receiver, one Adewunmi Olarenwaju at the computer village, Ikeja, Lagos State” the Commissioner said

Investigation revealed that the victim carelessly entrusted her ATM card in the care of her friend, one Esther Oshin, who doubles as her church member. Esther assessed the victim’s bank account and discovered some millions of naira in it. The said money belongs to some illiterate butchers who regularly pay monies into the victim’s account for onward transfers to the cow sellers they do business with.

It was also revealed that Esther later got a link with one Mayowa Morakinyo, an internet fraudster, who requested for the details on the ATM card in her possession.

With the information, Mayowa Morakinyo moved out of the account a total sum of One million five hundred thousand naira to purchase goods, including telephone handsets from Jumia online. The handsets were subsequently sold to the receiver at the computer village  who bought each of the phones worth N380,00 at the rate of N240,000.

The seven suspects paraded include, Oshin Esther, Adeoti Busayo, Morakinyo Titilayo, Mayowa Morakinyo, Semi Habeeb, Tomiwa Adeosun and Adewunmi Olarenwaju.
