NSE: stock market dips by N814bn in 5 days

Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last week closed in a negative trend as the market capitalization of listed equities fell by N814 billion.
Specifically, the value of equities depreciated by 7.42 per cent to N10.156 trillion from N10.970 trillion recorded the previous week.
Also, the NSE All-Share Index dropped by 2,464.91 basis points to 30,763.38 points from  33,228.29 recorded the preceding week.
Similarly, all the indices drifted  lower during the week with exception of the NSE  ASeM Index that  rose by 2.05 per cent.
The NSE 30 index fell by 119.22 basis point to 1,397.45 points, NSE Banking index went down by 25.23 basis points to 323.95 point, NSE Insurance index dropped by 15.07 basis points to141.23, NSE Consumer goods index decreased by 88.38 to 788.45 points, NSE Oil/Gas index dipped by 31.67 to 378.80 points, NSE Lotus II declined by 91.11 basis points to 1,987.85 and NSE Industrial Goods index depreciates by 105.26 to 1,960.18 points.
Investors for the week traded a turnover of 1.810 billion shares worth N28.918 billion in 20,677 deals  in contrast to a total of 1.526 billion shares  valued at  N24.992 billion that exchanged hands last week in 21,344 deals.
The  financial services industry  led the activity chart for the week with account of 1.370 billion shares valued at N13.783 billion traded in 11,742 deals, contributing 75.69 per cent and 47.66 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.  The Consumer goods  Industry  followed with a turnover of 137.115 million  shares worth  N9.368  million  3,583  deals. The  third position went to Conglomerates Industry with 93.133 million shares worth N567.167 million in 1,256 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely-  Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, FBN Holdings Plc  and  Diamond Bank Plc accounted for 624.388 million shares worth N9.188 billion in 5,090 deals, contributing 34.50 per cent and 31.77 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
A review of the investment showed that 10  equities  appreciated in price  during the week against 26  traded   preceding week.
The report further showed that 68 equities depreciated in price compared with 49 stocks of the preceding week, while 119 equities remained unchanged lower than 122 recorded in the preceding week.
An analysis of the trading activities showed that E –Tranzact International Plc led gainers table in percentage terms, appreciating by 15.38 per cent or N0.34 kobo to close at N2.55 kobo, Airlines Services and Logistics Plc followed with a gain of 9.70 per cent or N0.16 kobo to close at N1.81 kobo while Wema Bank Plc appreciated by 5.26 per cent or N0.05 kobo to close at N1.00. Other companies that recorded price appreciation were Academy Press Plc 4.63 per cent, Omoluabi Savings and Loans Plc 4.48 per cent, Beta Glass Company (NIG) Plc 3.67 per cent, EternaPlc 3.67 per cent, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated 3.47 per cent, 7UP Bottling Company Plc 0.75 per cent and CAP Plc 0.33 per cent.
On the contrary, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) topped losers chart, dropping 23.56 per cent or N0.94 kobo to close at N3.05 kobo, Champion Breweries trailed with a loss of 22.40 per cent or N2.00 to close at N6.93 kobo while Mansard Insurance Plc loss 22.04 per cent or N0.82 kobo to close at N2.90 kobo. Other companies that depreciated in price are Guinness Nigeria Plc 17.74 per cent, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc 14.95 per cent, Nigerian Breweries Plc 14.85 per cent, Seplat Petroleum Development Company Ltd   14.52 per cent, United Bank for Africa (UBA) 14.29 kobo, Union Bank of Nigeria 14.12 per cent and Dangote Flour Mills 14.03 per cent.
Also traded during the week were a total of 1,299 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N452,196.95 executed in 21 deals compared with a total of 10,886 units valued at N1.652 million transacted last week in 24 deals.
Similarly, a total of  800 units of FGN bonds valued at  N825,011.67 were executed in 1deal compared. with a total of 9,250 units valued at N10.345 million transacted last week in 4 deals.
