NSCDC, LAUTECH order probe into shooting of DSS officer in Osun


Management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECHTH) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have set up panels to investigate causes of death of Seyi Adebowale, an operative of Department of the State Services, DSS, that was reportedly shot by Sunday Dada of the NSCDC. 


The deceased was reportedly shot in Kuta, Ayedire local government area of Osun state, on September 15, during the visit of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, to the state. 


A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, LAUTECHTH, Mr. Ayodele Adeyemo, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, on Monday, noted that the hospital made frantic efforts to save the life of the officer, but to no avail. 


According to the statement, the deceased was operated twice in order to ameliorate the complications from the injury sustained, but he didn’t survive.  


He said, “efforts are being  made to audit the death of this officer with a postmortem and a panel to look at all the care given from reception till he died.

“While assuring the general public that the matter will be given utmost scrutiny, we once again commiserate with the DSS and the entire family of the deceased.”


Also, the spokesperson for the Osun command of the NSCDC, Daniel Adigun, in a statement on Monday, said the DSS personnel was unintentionally shot by a Civil Defence officer in Kuta. 


He stated that the state Commandant as well as officers and men of the Osun state Command, NSCDC, have expressed condolences to the officers and men of the DSS in the state.


He said, “while the shooting was not deliberate, the leadership of NSCDC has ordered full investigations into the incident which would lead to the implementation of appropriate sanctions, as the Corps’ rules for the deployment and handling of arms are clear.”
