NRC senior citizens petition NHRC over monetisation of railway quarters

Retired workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on the aegis of Railway Senior Citizens Kano chapter, have petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over alleged plan by the management of the corporation to sell their monetised quarters while the case is still pending at the Court of Appeal in Lagos.

In the petition dated 10th November 2022 and signed by the Chairman and Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Railway Senior Citizens, Kano chapter, Tasiu A. Gumel and Kabiru Mohammed Kuta, respectively, alleged that the plan was being orchestrated in connivance with the president generals of their two house unions.

The copy of the petition, which was made available to newsmen in  Kano, recalled that the group had on 18th March 2022, raised similar alarm over the plan but nothing was done to address the situation.

“We are, therefore, compelled to write this petition to the NHRC so that it will come to our rescue from the evil plan of the Management of RDM and NRC District Managers to respect the rule of law and restrain from selling the property pending the outcome of the ongoing case at the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos.

“The Managing Director Northeastern District, Aliyu Mainasara, is no longer SSA PG and neither is he the  Managing Director Northern District; so why is he interested in sending us packing.

“We also request the court to issue a restraining order to both the management Mainasara pending the determination of the court case at the Appeal Court.

“We don’t know why they want to sell our quarters while both the RDM and the two district managers are still holding onto their quarters,” the petitioners added.
