NPC out to use latest technology in Jigawa

The National Population Commission (NPC) has worked out new strategies, using its latest technology such as satellite images, hand held devices and smartphone call Tablet for area delineation, demarcation and enumeration of all the electoral wards in Nigeria, the Federal Commissioner in charge of Kano/Jigawa, Dr. Ismaila Lawan Suleiman has said.

Speaking to our correspondent Wednesday in Gwiwa local government area of Jigawa state, he said the purpose  of the area demarcation and enumeration is for national development.

“The exercise always helps the policy makers to plan, it helps to determine how many federal lawmakers can be elected from each electoral area as well as which development is needed in a particular area”, he stated.

Dr. Suleiman said the NPC was in Gwiwa, Jigawa state in its series of “Training for Demarcation and Enumeration Phase 10” that has to be carried out in all the 774 LGAs in Nigeria.

He stated, “The area demarcation and enumeration show areas that are developed and areas that need to be developed. It shows the setting of the communities, such as palaces, hospitals, clinics, prisons, social amenities or areas worst hit by flooding among others.”

“The objective of this exercise is that, now that we have completed our training, we are going into the field, using our latest technology satellite images and handheld devices called Tablet.

“It is just like the smartphone. The demarcation itself will be on the smartphone and a straight forward exercise. It is critical, its success to a large extent determines the success of any head count in the country.”

He said the 62 demarcators and enumerators had completed their five day training in Gwiwa. He added that the exercise will be completed in three week’s time in Gwiwa and Yangwashi LGAs.
