NNPP cries out over impersonation

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has raised the alarm over the activities of some former party members who continue to parade as members of the party.

Rising from a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja, the party told journalists that those in the alleged act have “no locus, but continue to parade themselves as leaders of our great party.”

It added that “these people were expelled from the party in line with its Constitution. Not only that, there is a restraining order of a court of competent jurisdiction stopping them from parading themselves as leaders of this Party.”

Frowning at the action, a statement by the council said, “They neither challenged this order nor tried in any way to vacate it. As we are here today, the order subsists.

“Flowing from above, all the activities of this renegade group amount to a contempt of court, which the laws of our great country seriously frown at. This court order was not only served on them, but media houses were also copied.

“However, it is very unfortunate that some media houses, unknowingly, apart from abetting these people, continue to flout the Orders of the Honourable Court.

“We wish to use this medium to appeal to our friends in the media to avoid being dragged by these characters into flouting a valid Court Order.

“We also want it placed on record that this group of people who have ceased to be members of our party, even as affirmed by a valid Court judgment, have individually and collectively suffered losses at the Courts in their misadventures of fighting NNPP.

“Their efforts to drag the judiciary into their shenanigans have been stoutly resisted by the Courts which have consistently asked them to go and settle with their authentic party leadership.

“We have tried to avoid being distracted by their activities which we see as a journey to nowhere. However, concerns by well- meaning Nigerians who continue to call have compelled us to respond now.

“We wish to use this medium to appeal to Nigerians to shun these elements who have no locus standi as far as NNPP is concerned. We make bold to say that they are just a mere group of political adventurists and crass opportunists who themselves know they are only engaged in an illegal and unprofitable venture.

“We have called this press conference in order to advise the general public to be wary of this renegade group, and to avoid doing any business with them on behalf of NNPP, as in the end, it will amount to violation of the law.”
