NNPC tackles fuel scarcity with 209m litres

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured the nation that it was set to tackle the fuel scarcity in parts of the country, with the acquisition of over 209 million litres of premium motor spirit, otherwise called petrol, which had been discharged at the Lagos ports.

A statement by the Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, said all hands would be on deck to return normalcy to the fuel supply chain in the country.

Ibrahim also said several vessels had been allocated to major marketers to wet the nation with products, adding that vessels belonging to NIPCO, CONOIL and others were currently discharging their batches of fuel to clear up the queues.

He said: “I can confirm to you that the NNPC has allocated additional vessels laden with PMS to MOMAN and other suppliers and they are currently discharging the products at Atlas Cove, Apapa, IBM jetty, Capital Jetty and SPM jetty in Lagos.”

He further said other vessels were also discharging fuel at Port Harcourt and Oghara in Delta state and that the queues would thin out in the next few days.

The NNPC spokesman re-assured Nigerians that the NNPC was doing everything humanly possible to wipe out the queues from filling stations.
