Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Barrister Boss Mustapha, has said that the Infrastructure Concession Regulation Commission (ICRC) had given the authority a certificate of compliance to go ahead with the concession process of Onitsha, Lokoja and Ogita River ports.
Mustapha, who disclosed this during his tour of area offices of NIWA at Onitsha, Warrior, Oguta and Yenagua, said he was impressed with the state of the cargo handling equipment and other facilities at Onitsha port, assuring that he would accelerate the process of completion of the concession of the port.

The MD, who also said he was delighted with the asset of NIWA at Warrior dockyard, pointed out that the asset at the dockyard was enough to sustain the authority financially if properly managed.
He, however, promised to address the issue of inadequate manpower and obsolete equipment at the port, adding that some operations at the dockyard may be leased to private sector.
