Niger state government has introduced new Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Danladi Ndayebo, has said.
He stated this yesterday in a statement in Minna, explaining that Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu would officially unveil the new land documents on August 4, 2014.
The commissioner said the idea was part of the on-going efforts to reposition land administration for better service delivery in the state.

Ndayebo said the scheme was being executed by the Niger State Geographic Information Systems (NIGIS), adding that it would fast-track the processes leading to the issuance of new Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O) to land owners across the state.
“The project will make for proper documentation of all land matters and also unlock huge revenue potentials of the state,” he said.

He said that since the current administration established NIGIS, there had been tremendous improvement in revenues accruing to the state from land related transactions.
Ndayebo said once the new C of O was launched on August 4, 2014, land owners would have three months within which to present their old Certificates of Occupancy for re certification or regularisation, failing which they would forfeit their titles.

He said the new C of O was a two-page (one sheet) document which contains information about the applicant, condition for granting the title, the governor’s signature and the photograph of the applicant embossed on the front page.
He said a drawing which showed the size and coordinate of each plot of land would be found on the back page of the new Certificate of Occupancy.
