Niger: Governor Umaru Bago in partnership with Bayer AG for sustainable agriculture

The Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, and his team are currently in New York, where a collaborative meeting was held with Matthias Berninger, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Science & Sustainability of Bayer AG. 

The German multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical and biotechnology giant is set to play a key role in facilitating innovation and development within the agricultural sector of Niger State. 

Bayer AG, renowned for its diverse business portfolio cutting across pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds, and biotechnology, is geared to work together with Niger State on a comprehensive sustainability strategy. 

This strategy, according to a statement, will encompass crucial aspects such as access to innovation in agriculture, research and development, improved seed varieties, food production, and standardization of global best practices in crop protection.

The partnership seeks to position Niger State as a key player in the global agriscience and food security domain. With the support of Bayer AG, the state will mobilize international partners and stakeholders, promoting self-sufficiency in essential food items. 

Niger State aspires to become a leading global exporter of various crops, including rice, maize, soybeans, millet, Shea butter, sugar cane, and yam. 

This collaboration draws a considerable step towards ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the agricultural landscape of Niger State on the global stage.
