A Non-Governmental organization, NGO, under the aegis of Wellness and Health Foundation (WHF) in Nasarawa state, has urged the State government to work out modalities for the establishment of health institutions at Toto local government area of the state.

Spokesman for the NGO, Prince Ibrahim  Azaki, in a press statement lamented that Toto, a locality with a huge population and manpower was lacking government presence in terms of hospital to cater for the health needs of the people.
The statement noted that lack of health facilities in the area has caused untold hardship to the locals especially, pregnant women as they usually have no other alternative than to travel far distance in other parts of the state to access a health facility.
He said: “It is pathetic when you see older persons and pregnant women, including children, trekking long distances before finally locating a standard health institution.

“The question to ask is,why is the area so neglected in this aspect? If it is population, they have it; their people are the ones that produce the food consumed in the state. These hardworking people have to be given proper attention concerning provision of a standard hospital.”
He recalled that it was only during the administration of former governor Abdullahi Adamu that a modest attention was accorded the Akwanga geographical locale, with the establishment of the college of Health Technology at Keffi.

This category of institution he said could only be accessed initially by the locals when they travel led to Jos, Plateau state.
In the same vein, the traditional ruler in the Toto community, His royal highness, Ishaku A. Dahilo JP who received the ex co members of WHF on a curtesy call at his palace, joined his voice in calling on the present administration to expedite action in establishing a health institution in their community.
WHF is an NGO formed by some concerned elites across Nasarawa state to intervene in sensitising the grass roots folks about the sensitivity of their wellness and to enlighten women especially on their reproductive life style.
It advocates partnership from donor agencies as well as persuade government to intervene on health related projects in the state.
