National Examination Council (NECO) has embarked on a reach out visitation to states towards wooing them for more candidates enrollment for its examination which has began to drop over the years.
Registrar of the Council, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, stated this at the weekend when he received in audience a delegation of Campaign for Democracy (CD) led by Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, in a courtesy visit in Minna.

The Registrar, represented by his Director Special Duties, Ebikibina John Ogborodi, said the Council had observed that registration for its examinations was going down even though it was the only indigenous body mandated to conduct credible examination for the country.
He said: “We have observed that NECO registration is going down and we realised the important role we need to play in the education of our children. We also realised that there was the need for us to reach out to states in order to prevail on them to stop the ugly trend.”
He said that the Council in this regard had gone to Imo, Oyo, Anambra, Gombe and Katsina states adding that more states “will soon be reached in the advocacy visit.”

Garba said he had restored calm and normalcy to the Council after the workers unrest that preceded his assumption of office, adding that several committees were constituted to look into various complaints adding that recommendations of such committees were being implemented vigorously.
Earlier, in his address, the leader of the delegation and Niger state Chairman of Campaign for Democracy, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, said there was the need for his organisation to synergise with the Council in areas of examination coverage and technical support.
He said that NECO management under the leadership of Professor Garba has met the yearning of the people in human development and conducting standard examinations adding that he had repositioned the council for efficient service delivery.
