NASWDEN to set up dumps across country

The National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) has said a centralized dump will be set up in the six geo-political parts of the country, with all the dumpster licensed a police post attached to all them for proper management and in order to checkmate scraps and waste entering the site.

The association also assured Nigerians that it is in partnership with the Police, Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, and other law enforcement officers to checkmate activities of scavengers in the country.

The president of the Association, John Egaji, who stated this at the just concluded national executive meeting of NASWDEN in Abuja, said they just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ministry of Industry Trade and Investment for the setting up of these dumpsters in different states round the country.

He said the setting up of these dumps will generate good revenue for the federal government.

According to him”The association has been on ground for a while now, as revenue returns are made to the government through the ministry of Labour and Productivity.

“The government does not create jobs, what it does is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive, the government’s benefit is taxation which the association is generating and giving back.

“We are overwhelmed with reports of these scavengers stealing manholes, generators, household use and others, this things they steal are going somewhere, by the time these legal dumpster are established, it will be easy to track them, because they will have nowhere to take them to without being caught.”

Also speaking, the deputy National President NASWDEN, Baba Liman, said there are lots of unregistered dumpsters in Nigeria presently.
She said for the benefit of Nigerians, there is need for a centralized dumpster, adding that all dumpster not registered with the association will be considered illegal.
