NASS: Senators hit back at Oshiomhole over vandalisation allegation

Some Senators of the 9th National Assembly have faulted allegations on  vandalism leveled against them by Senator Adams Oshiomhole ( APC Edo North).

Senator Oshiomhole had at  Politics Today programme on  Channels Television on Sunday, alleged that Senators and House of Representatives members of the 9th National Assembly, carted away items in their various offices, including rugs.

He said he and most of the federal lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly, used their personal money to put their offices in shape.

His words, “In spite of the presence of security men and women, television sets, carpets and chairs were looted by the immediate past senators and House of Representatives members

“The former lawmakers left their offices in shambles with holes on the wall, which had to be fixed by serving lawmakers from their pockets.

“I was shocked by the level of vandalisation of properties of the National Assembly. Televisions were carted away, carpets were carted away, Senators’ chairs were carted away. I had to use my money and some also decided to deliver to me a printer, to give me a laptop to use in my office.

“I had to buy the carpet and pay the cost of fixing it. I had to pay some young people to clean the office to restore the new carpet. I had to pay to repaint my office. I will produce you the receipt.

“I can’t understand why and how a senate that sat on Sunday before we were inaugurated on the following Tuesday, and that level of vandalisation took place, and we have hundreds of security men and women in the National Assembly.

“I can never understand what happened. You find holes on the wall, even in the offices of principal officers of the senate, who I won’t get to mention.

“People told me there’s also the same level of vandalisation in the House of  Representatives”.

But in separate reactions through telephone conversation on Monday night , some senators who served in the 9th Senate, said Oshiomhole got it wrong.

One of the former Senators who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress and hails from one of the states in the South West, said he didn’t pick a pin from his office just like some other senators and House of Representatives members.

The former Senator who didn’t want to directly join issues with Oshiomhole said those who carted away items from their offices ,must have bought the items by themselves in June / July 2019 , as Senator Oshiomhole and others are doing now.

“I have left the Senate and by extension , National Assembly which I have put in my past now.

“I don’t want to directly join issues with Senator Oshiomhole on the wide and blanket allegation   he made against federal lawmakers of the 9th National Assembly on alleged vandalisation of office equipment and items.

“He got it wrong and must have spoken out of ignorance,” said the former Senator.
