Nasarawa: Workers warn against payment of half salary

Civil servants in Nasarawa state have   said they would not accept payment of percentage salary in April from  the state government.

Some of the workers who spoke to our correspondent on the issue Monday said the government cannot complain of not having funds when it recently purchased 24 brand new vehicles for the House of Assembly members.

The workers who pleaded anornymity hinted that though the government paid complete salary in March to state workers, however, they lamented that local government workers were paid half salary.

“We are not sure if the government is going to pay full salary, this is because there are rumours going on that government is planning to pay half salary in April.

“We are not going to accept that. They cannot convince us that there is no money and yet just last week the state government bought  24 brand new vehicles for the House of Assembly member to fight the spread of COVID-19 epidemic.

“It would not be fair to cut down workers salary. If government can buy 24 vehicles at this time, it means that there is money to also pay workers”.

But speaking with Senior Assistant on Media to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Mr. Ali Abare, denied such report, saying  “there is no official statement in that regard”.
