N-HYPPADEC rehabilitates Bida water supply project at N200m

 

The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has taken over the  rehabilitation of Mana Water Works in Bida town of Niger state to solve the perennial problem of portable water supply in the town and environs.

Managing Director of the Commission, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, stated this during inspection visit to the project on Tuesday. 

He explained that the project involved the resuscitation and expansion of the water works and reticulation to the city.

He explained that Bida town has been battling with acute shortage of drinking and domestic water for over a decade, adding that, “the project aside  from ending water shortage,  would also put an end to water-borne diseases because the people of Bida and its environs will now get pipe-borne water.”

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done in the area, attributing the good job to the engineers from the Commission and the State Water Board, who are providing technical support to the ongoing water project now at 60% completion.

Earlier while briefing the Managing Director, the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the firm handling, Shafi’yi Yabagi said the project covers upgrading of 11 KVA line  to 33 KVA line, expansion, reticulation and provision of more booster stations, treatment plant, distribution pipelines, reservoir, among others.

According to the project Engineer Amidu Muhammad , the  project was initially awarded by the Niger state government in 2017 at over N100 million but was abandoned until  recent intervention of by  N-HYPPADEC, adding that, “when completed  it will  treat 10,000 cubic meters of water per hour to ease the suffering of about two million beneficiaries.”
