Minister lauds youth council’s moves to resolve crises

Mr.-Boni-HarunaThe Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna, has commended some leaders of the National Youth council of Nigeria (NYCN), for deeming it necessary to resolve the lingering leadership succession crisis which has bedevilled the council for some time now.
In a statement by the Assistant Director Press and Public Information, Olusola Abiola, Haruna stated this when some representatives of the leadership of the council paid his office a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Haruna expressed his delight at the initiative taken to address the factional crisis, saying the present move has justified his belief in the capability of the youths to resolve their problems.

He explained that the recent consent judgment which grants the council the mandate to conduct fresh elections within 90 days was pivotal to the realization of stakeholders dream of re-positioning the council to deliver on its founding objectives.
The minister also noted that the judgment would offer the youths a new window of opportunities to reclaim lost glory due to past leadership crisis.
He promised to work closely with the appropriate committees to achieve the aim of organising another congress, urging all parties in the dispute to abide with the court judgment in the overall interest of the council.

Pledging to commit adequate resources towards achieving the emergence of a new leadership for the council, adding that the current efforts would mark the end of bickering which overshadowed the objectives of the council in the recent past.
Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation, Mr Uzoh Ifeanyi, had informed the minister that the purpose of the visit was to intimate him about the recent consent judgment, and other initiatives being pursued towards convening a congress that would lead to the emergence of a new leadership of the council.

He disclosed that the resolution of the crisis would enable the council organise a befitting 50th anniversary celebration later this year.
He on that note solicited the support of the Minister and the entire Ministry for the success of the impending congress, disclosing that ‘if plans worked out, the next congress had been tentatively scheduled for 15th September this year.
