Military to establish 2 new battalions in Kebbi

Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8th Division Sokoto, Brig. Gen. Aminu Bande, has said the Nigerian military is to establish two armour brigades in Kebbi in a bid to expand its security operations.

The GOC, who disclosed this when he paid a courtesy call on the Kebbi state governor, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, Thursday, further said a similar military support battalion would be established in Koko, Dakingari while the existing battalion in Birnin Kebbi is to be upgraded to a brigade.

Gen Bande urged the Kebbi state government to play greater role by partnering with the Army headquarters to ensure the facilitation of quick establishment of the proposed military formations in the state.

He noted that the recent security meeting of North west in Katsina had helped in no small measure in curtailing insecurity in the zone, adding that the governors in the zone had resolved embrace dialogue in addressing security challenges in the region.

“So you can see that we welcome the dialogue because it’s a political arrangement that we cannot stop. We will do everything possible to ensure peace reigns a cross the troubled areas in the country,” he said.

Responding, Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, commended the military and other  security agencies in the country for a job well done.

He expressed the state government and the people’s happiness with the decision by the military to establish the two formations and assured that his administration would do everything possible to work to accelerate the establishment to its logical conclusion.

Bagudu further said, in an effort to ensure that the Fulani herdsmen were given a sense of belonging, over 20 schools were constructed in Ruga settlements while potable drinking water, healthcare facilities and other necessary things for the nomads.
