International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO), Wednesday, organised a Covid-19 vaccine access closeout and dissemination meeting in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

Mercy Corps interim programme manager, Covid-19 Vaccine Access Programme, Yobe state, Kauna Sugabkya Gayun, said Mercy Corps Nigeria and Care International as members of the INGO jointly implemented the Covid-19 vaccine access programme in Nguru, Bade, Potiskum and Damaturu in four Local Governments Areas (LGAs).

Kauna stated that the closeout is to showcase what the Mercy Corps and Care International have done.

She stated that the programme aimed to improve Covid-19 vaccination coverage by increasing vaccine confidence, acceptance and uptake in vulnerable communities in Yobe state.

“Covid -19 vaccine Access project intervention brought about meaningful behavioural changes to the target participants, dispelled pre-existing myths and misconceptions, reduced vaccine hesitancy and increase vaccine acceptance and uptake.

“There is need to improve leaders and Community health workers capacity to provide accurate information and address misinformation around Covid-19 Vaccines,” she said.

The programme manager urged the state government to continue its support to improve and ensure information is disseminated to rural communities.
