Medical outreach: AMA foundation offers free eye treatment in Yobe

AMA Foundation has on Sunday concluded its week long free eye care medical outreach in Damaturu,Yobe state capital .

The programme which took place at the specialist hospital Damaturu targeted the less privileged persons in the state who are in need of treatment for some medical conditions but for which they could not afford the cost.

The founder, AMA foundation, Mallam Abdullahi Musa Bello said, the outreach aimed to address the growing need for eye health services and raise awareness about preventable vision impairments.

He noted that what the foundation is trying to achieve is to make live easier for Nigerians.

He said: “We are blessed and we have to share. We have started this initiative 13 years ago reaching about 26 states of the federation.

“During the week-long campaign we did cataract surgery, distributed eyeglasses, vision education workshops and free eye screening respectively.

“For the numbers of people attend, we do attend every person(s) that showi up.

Abdullahi Mohammed Bagare, a nurse from eye department specialist hospital Damaturu, said eye problem is a serious challenge in the North east region.

“We are being in the eye system for a long and we know how value eye is for human being.If you don’t have an eye automatically you loose part of your independent that is why we tend to intervene for our teeming all and Young ones to have their eye very good and effective,”said nurse Abdullahi.

He commended the AMA foundation for the healthcare services rendered to the people of Yobe state adding that the outreach was essential for the betterment of Yobeans.
