Looted palliative: House-to-house search begins in Osun

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state, Tuesday said that the 72-hour amnesty period given to the looters of properties in the state will not be extended.

He stated that security operatives will begin house-to-house search to recover looted properties after the expiration of 72-hour amnesty.

Oyetola had on Monday announced 72-hour amnesty for those that participated in the looting of properties to return them and be forgiven.

Speaking during the inspection of returned loots at the government house Tuesday evening, Oyetola insisted that there won’t be extension of the amnesty period.

He commended those that have returned their looted properties with 48-hours, urging those that are still having the looted goods in custody to return them and be forgiven.

He said, “After the expiration of 72 hours there is no going back. We are going to be going from houses to houses to retrieve this material. So I am telling whoever that has participated in looting to return them.

“I am happy that some of them decided to yield to the call of Amnesty time.

They voluntarily returned those items that they stole. I gave them 72-hour and this is about 48- hour they still have 24 hours grace more. I so much welcome it but I understand that this is about 20 per cent of items. The intention of this is to assist the owners of these properties of having the opportunity to get them back.

“Other people still have the opportunity of 24 hours to voluntarily return the properties that was stolen. After the expiration of the remaining 24 hours, the government will move in.

“One thing they should realise is that there is a lot of video coverage of all the people that participated in the looting. So, there is no hiding place for anybody that looted anything in Osun.

“The remain 24 hours will be sufficient for the looter to return their loots. Most of those that participated in the looting are in the state. They should drop it in the places of the monarch around them or LGA chairman. No extension for the amnesty,” Oyetola insisted.
